Die WOIC fördert die sektorübergreifende Zusammenarbeit, erforscht Trends im Bereich der offenen Innovation und stellt bahnbrechende Forschungen und Praktiken vor. Dieses Jahr fand die Konferenz in Bilbao, Spanien, statt. Marika präsentierte ihre Arbeit zum Thema "Emotional Rollercoaster: The inverted U-shaped Relationship between CEO Emotions and Innovation Outcomes", die sie gemeinsam mit Thomas Schäper und Nils Foege verfasst hat.
Die preisgekrönte Studie untersucht die Rolle von CEO-Emotionen für Innovationen auf Unternehmensebene. Die Studie zeigt insbesondere Folgendes:
- Ein moderates Maß an Emotionen führt zu den höchsten Innovationsergebnissen, während ein extrem hohes oder niedriges Maß an Emotionen die Innovation verringert
- Das Yerkes-Dodson-Gesetz kann im Rahmen der Upper-Echelon-Theorie angewendet werden
- CEO-Emotionen können mit einem innovativen Algorithmus gemessen werden, der auf Natural Language Processing basiert.
Marika hat nicht nur ihre Arbeit vorgestellt, sondern auch den Henry Chesbrough Best Student Paper Award gewonnen. Die Jury erklärte: "The winning paper uses a novel approach to study the relationship between CEO emotions and innovation outcomes. The authors build a convincing argument, collect and analyze a rich dataset, and shed new light on both positive and negative emotions drive innovation."

WOIC fosters cross-sector collaboration, explores open innovation trends, and showcases groundbreaking research and practices. This year it took place in Bilbao, Spain. Marika presented her work on “Emotional Rollercoaster: The inverted U-shaped Relationship between CEO Emotions and Innovation Outcomes” co-authored by Thomas Schäper and Nils Foege.
The award-winning study examines the role of CEO emotions for firm-level innovation. In particular, it finds:
- Moderate levels of emotions lead to the highest innovation outcomes, while extremely high or low levels decrease innovation
- Yerkes-Dodson law can be applicable within upper echelon theory
